Welcome to The Wolf Den, a comfortable and updated studio in the heart of Mammoth Lakes. This ground-floor condo at Mountain Shadows offers an easy home base for skiing, hiking, fishing, biking or simply spending a few days in the mountains.
Unlike many studios where everything is packed into one room, The Wolf Den has a partially separated sleeping area with a queen bed, giving the space a little more definition and privacy. The living area includes a comfortable sectional with additional queen sleeper sofa sleeping space, making the condo suitable for up to four guests.
After a day on the mountain, come back, kick off your boots and relax by the fireplace. The living area has plenty of room to spread out, along with a TV and free Wi-Fi for streaming your own entertainment.
The remodeled kitchen has everything you need to prepare meals during your stay, including a full-size range, refrigerator, microwave, coffee maker and plenty of counter space. A large breakfast bar provides a convenient place for meals without taking up valuable living space.
The bathroom has also been updated and includes a full tub/shower combination, vanity and plenty of fresh towels and linens.
Large sliding glass doors bring natural light into the condo and open to the outdoor patio area. Because D5 is a downstairs unit, there are no stairs to deal with when you're hauling in luggage, groceries or ski gear.
Mountain Shadows is centrally located in Mammoth Lakes and offers three spas, a seasonal swimming pool, two laundry rooms and outdoor BBQ areas during the summer. The free town shuttle stops directly in front of the complex at Stop #43, making it easy to get to Eagle Lodge without having to drive and deal with ski-area parking. Vons, restaurants, shops, bars and other conveniences are also nearby.
Two parking spaces are available for the unit.
A few things to know before booking: Mountain Shadows was built in the 1970s, and like many Mammoth condo complexes from this era, sound can occasionally carry between units. D5 is a downstairs condo, so you may hear guests in the unit above. We prefer to mention this upfront rather than have it come as a surprise. Mammoth summers are generally mild and the condo does not have air conditioning. Heat is provided for the winter months.
During the winter months, protective wood panels are installed over the exterior balcony rails to protect the windows from heavy snow and ice. These panels reduce some of the natural light and the view from the condo during the winter season. They are removed once winter conditions allow. The Wolf Den is a non-smoking, non-pet property.
Whether you're coming to ski fresh snow, fish the Eastern Sierra, hit the trails or just get away for a few days, The Wolf Den gives you a comfortable, centrally located place to call home while you're in Mammoth.

I had no idea what to expect at this property. I read that the place "wasn't 5 star," and that's true. But what it lacks in matching towels and advanced kitchen gear, it makes up in character and experience. We brought our 8 year old here to get her some lessons and SHE LOVED IT. This is not your upscale LA stable experience, this is a real working ranch with a modest on site home for the guests and access to beautiful horses and a wonderful, small staff of people who live for these majestic creatures. There's no coddling here during the lessons, they will work you and teach you so much about being around your horse, a real education in my opinion. We are definitely coming back soon, and plan on making it a regular in our road trip rotation. Many thanks to Leslie (the host) for being so good to my daughter. We will see you again soon! Jen
Thia was a Christmas getaway for our grandkids and their parents and uncle. We chose this place because the grandkids wanted to ride horses. The house was dated with updated bathrooms. It was clean and we had plenty of room to spread out. Leslie was great to communicate with and to arrange riding lessons for the 7 yr old. We also explored Mt Whitney and Death Valley on day trips from here. Thoroughly enjoyed our time at the ranch. Grandson would like to go back for his birthday in July.
